Among the dazzling jewels worn by celebrities on May 5th during the 2025 Met Gala, pearls made a quietly powerful appearance, reasserting their place in the modern lexicon of fine jewelry.

Once again, the Metropolitan Museum of Art was transformed into an extraordinary stage for what remains one of the world’s most anticipated and culturally significant events. Far beyond its philanthropic purpose in support of the Costume Institute, the evening underscored fashion, and by extension, jewelry, as a true form of artistic expression, capable of conveying layered, nuanced ideas.

This year’s theme, Tailored for You, paid tribute to the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, inspiring guests to explore Black tailoring as a profound expression of identity, belonging, and individuality.

Among those who brought the sea-born gem back into the limelight was actress Yvonne Orji who, for her Met Gala debut, wore a pair of exquisite Yoko London earrings crafted from South Sea pearls and diamonds. In a setting where every jewel was called upon to convey meaning, pearls spoke with clarity and elegance, bridging memory and modernity in a way that promises to echo through the season’s aesthetic codes.

Today, pearls are being reimagined through contemporary lenses, often paired with precious stones and sleek, architectural silhouettes. Among the most sought-after interpretations are Art Deco–inspired earrings, defined by their bold geometry and timeless refinement.

Coscia offers a sophisticated take in 18kt gold, blending freshwater pearls with onyx and diamonds in a subtle play of contrasts. Autore leans into a minimalist vocabulary, combining custom-cut gemstones with luminous South Sea pearls.

And Yoko London continues to redefine classicism through pieces such as the Cleopatra earrings, where pearls and emeralds are united in a regal and harmonious composition.
