The engagement ring? It’s vintage!

The engagement ring? It’s vintage!

One of the main trends on the wedding scene is to give an engagement ring with an antique and vintage look. These rings evoke a sense of family and heritage handed down from generation to generation, decade after decade and love after love, among lines reminiscent of Art Deco and a style that echoes of the engagement rings that William and Harry of England gave to their wives.

But, besides beauty and history, there is something else that attracts future brides: before the invention of machinery, diamonds were hand cut and the aim was to capture the light in a candlelit room. When electricity and the light bulb came into use, stone cutting developed with more reflective multi-faceting, leaving the softer shine of old cuts aside, even for rose-cut diamonds.

Nowadays, diamonds are cut by machines to obtain maximum shine and are classified according to the precision and symmetry of the cut. In short, according to some sector influencers, it is as if present-day diamonds do not bear the same love story as old-cut diamonds, which may not be impeccably proportioned. However, it should be remembered that the most famous stones of all time are ancient and still astound today because they we cut solely for the purpose of enhancing their beauty.

For customers who worry about the authenticity of their diamond – if it should be dated, experts underline the importance of always buying a diamond that comes with a certificate.
