Vintage watches capture the spirit of New York

Vintage watches capture the spirit of New York

Patek Philippe, Rolex, Cartier, Audemars Piguet. An auction that has put together a selection of watches for true connoisseurs and collectors, all united by the precious heritage they carry with them.

Fascinating tales related to the New York spirit and the stories of American society were the common thread of this sale which reached a total value of $ 7,826,250 - 139% of which above estimates - with a participation from 41 countries and over 27% of new participants.

Leading the auction is the magnificent Cartier Mystery watch, which sold for $ 562,500. Made in 1919, this timepiece is of a unique rarity and is one of the first examples of 'mystery Clock' created by Louis Cartier and master watchmaker Maurice Coüet.

Excellent results also from the sale of Patek Philippe watches, a chronograph with calendar perpetual in 18-karat gold, reference 2499/100, sold for $ 475,000, and a Nautilus reference 3800 / 3P sold for $ 150,000, against an estimate of $ 14,000.

«We are extremely proud of these achievements, said Rémi Guillemin, Christie's Watches Specialist. . The online auction presented a selection of watches perfect for a very large and heterogeneous audience, from the most experienced collector to color in search of their first watch. The important results achieved demonstrate the continuous effort by Christie's digital platform and the its ability to reach a huge audience, with an increasingly strong and targeted strategy. We are now awaiting the results of the next but a watch auction to be held in Geneva, confirming the favorable season for vintage watches.»
