Event
This talk focuses on the role of contemporary Chinese women within the jewellery industry, presenting the work and professional practices of four outstanding Chinese female jewellery professionals. Set against the backdrop of China’s rapidly evolving jewellery market, they operate not only as designers and makers, but also as brand builders and cultural communicators.
Through selected case studies, the lecture examines how contemporary Chinese jewellery balances cultural narratives, material choices, and design concepts while responding to changing consumer expectations around identity, emotional value, and cultural meaning. Key topics include the reinterpretation of traditional cultural elements in contemporary design, the relationship between craftsmanship and innovation, and the impact of female perspectives on brand positioning and differentiation.
By sharing the experiences of these four women working between China and the international stage, the talk offers the jewellery industry an informed perspective on the Chinese market and contemporary jewellery development, highlighting how cultural background, female creativity, and commercial strategies interact to shape new possibilities within today’s global jewellery landscape.
