“Diamonds are a girl's best friend,” sang the iconic Marilyn Monroe in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” movie (1953). After World War II, the “economic miracle” gave rise to a strong desire for luxury and extravagance. The 1950s jewellery expressed joy and optimism towards a promising future. Opulence and the desire for creativity inspired the jewelers of the time. In Italy, in 1946, women were able to vote for the first time: female empowerment was increasingly expressed through jewelry.
