Kalevala unveils a new collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week

On August 6th, the historic Finnish brand Kalevala, now approaching its 90th anniversary, made its debut at Copenhagen Fashion Week with a new jewellery collection designed by multidisciplinary artist Martin Bergström, who works between Sweden and Finland. Titled Itu, meaning “sprout” in Finnish, the collection draws inspiration from the raw, untamed power of nature and marks a new chapter in Kalevala’s ongoing journey to reinterpret the Nordic landscape through a bold, contemporary lens. The central element of the collection is the seed: a symbolic jewel representing new life, the origin of all things. Shaped through Bergström’s sculptural vision, Itu plays with unexpected details and dynamic forms that unfold across tactile surfaces, sometimes matte, sometimes gleaming, cast in shades of silver and gold. Pearls echo the moon’s quiet radiance, silently shaping the rhythms of life. True to his creative process, Bergström begins with hand-drawn sketches, organic shapes inspired by nature’s richness and complexity. Roots, decay, and botanical elements become abstracted under his pen, evolving into a visual language that defines his distinctive style, clearly present throughout the Itu collection.
