Misha Kahn’s maximalism on view at BABS Art Gallery in Milan

Misha Kahn’s maximalism on view at BABS Art Gallery in Milan

The maximalist and sensorial aesthetic of designer and artist Misha Kahn, born in 1989, now among the most original, experimental and exuberant voices on the international scene, arrives in Milan, at BABS Art Gallery, with the exhibition “Menisco Convesso” (11 February - 8 May 2026). The title refers to a physical principle – fluid statics – linked to the behavior of liquid surfaces and the tensions that run through them: a conceptual reference that informs all the works on display. A convex meniscus is the shape water assumes in a container, when cohesion between its molecules prevails over adhesion to the walls: rather than adhering perfectly to a surface, the liquid gathers into itself, forming a small mound. The artist plays with the perceptual affinity between precious stones and water. For evolutionary reasons, the human brain is naturally drawn to sparkling objects, instinctively associating them with fresh water. Semi-precious stones, which appear as immobilized liquids, evoke the same sensory satisfaction we experience when faced with something vital. Kahn moves with agility among different techniques and media, crossing the boundaries between art, design and craftsmanship. For the American creative, there is no antagonism between technology and manual practice: everything intersects harmoniously in his work, giving rise to unique and surprising creations, with a strong narrative impact.
