The return of understatement in contemporary jewellery

The return of understatement in contemporary jewellery

The FX miniseries Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, available from February 2026 on Disney+, has sparked much debate and divided critics. Many pointed out that it does not fully do justice to such an iconic couple, yet one aspect cannot be overlooked: it refocused attention on Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s sober and measured style. Carolyn was refined and restrained. She favored clean lines and proportions, wearing few accessories chosen with care. She preferred delicate jewelry, meant to complement a look without overwhelming it. Her understated aesthetic has revived interest in brands that celebrate the essential through neutral combinations and subtle details, often inspired by urban architecture and contemporary design. The young brand Aldina perfectly embodies the vision: it draws on the magical stories of the past, reinterpreted in a modern key. Italian romanticism and the energy of Milan merge in jewelry designed for those seeking something different. Pianegonda, with the Clipea collection, offers bold minimalism: silver pieces with clean forms, crafted to enhance the natural lines of everybody. Bracelets, rings, necklaces, and earrings in silver can be worn at any time of day. Finally, Kinraden takes inspiration from Japanese design traditions and Danish architecture, combining form and function with respect for nature. Its jewelry is made exclusively from 18-karat gold and sterling silver recycled from decommissioned equipment, forged by Thai artisans certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council: a work that unites minimal taste with ethical practice.
