Maria Nilsdotter opens a new gothic-inspired boutique

Since its founding in 2007, Maria Nilsdotter has built one of Sweden’s most distinctive jewellery brands, with an aesthetic inspired by Nordic nature, mysticism, folklore and mythology. Now, the brand’s universe takes on a new physical form with the opening of its new space in Ljusgården at NK Stockholm. The store has been designed by architect Daniel Östman, who is also behind Maria Nilsdotter’s other retail spaces. Together, they have created what they call their “little Gothic cathedral” – a dark, fairytale-like space where materials, shapes and details evoke a sense of mystery and magic, while allowing the jewellery to take centre stage and tell its stories. The store also features a specially commissioned sculpture by Klara Kristalova, one of Maria Nilsdotter’s favourite artists, whose distinctive and mysterious universe has long been a source of inspiration for the designer. “This space in the department store has long been a dream of mine. It was right here, through a retailer, that I first began selling my jewellery in 2008. That’s why it feels incredibly special to now open the doors here with a space that is entirely our own, right in front of Ljusgården,” said Maria Nilsdotter, founder and designer.
