Dorotheum: auction of the Habsburg jewels

Dorotheum will be selling the diadem and brooch of Maria Valeria, daughter of the Empress Elisabeth, in Vienna on November 27th.

In particular, the diadem is set with 15 oriental pearls and 25 carat diamonds, while the magnificent corsage brooch is composed of two pieces that amaze for the diamonds and the many and very rare oriental pearls, then in fashion and symbol of beauty, power and influence.

The two jewels are considered in excellent condition and their estimate ranges from 100,000 to 200,000 euros (for the diadem) and from 60,000 to 100,000 euros (for the brooch).

The history of the brooch started in 1890, when the archduchess Maria Valeria married the archduke Francesco Salvatore of Austria-Tuscany, and the jeweler A. E. Köchert - supplier of Court and Imperial-Royal Chamber already of third generation - realized this jewel.

The design of the diadem is by to Wilhelm Friedrich Haarstrick, until 1891 signatory responsible for the atelier.
